University of Toulouse

The University of Toulouse is one of France’s leading higher-education and research institutions, with nearly 37,000 students. It welcomes students and researchers across seven sites located in Toulouse, Castres, Tarbes, Auch, Castanet-Tolosan, Bagnères-de-Luchon, Lannemezan, Bagnères-de-Bigorre, and Moulis. Through this territorial network, the university contributes to the scientific and economic development of the Occitanie Region. Located in a major European center for science, technology, and innovation, the university benefits from a dynamic academic and industrial environment. The diversity of its laboratories provides strong national and international visibility in science, health, sports sciences, technology, and engineering.

Research is a core mission of the university. It brings together 74 research laboratories and federative structures, many operating in partnership with CNRS, INSERM, INRAE, and other national and international institutions. Their work contributes to advances in environmental and climate sciences, oceanography, aerospace, mathematics, physics, biology, medicine, and digital technologies. The university also promotes interdisciplinary research to foster innovation and address major societal challenges.

The university is home to a remarkable scientific heritage, including the Pic du Midi Observatory, an internationally recognized center for astronomical and atmospheric research and a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status.

Since 1 January 2025, the University of Toulouse has become an experimental public institution and has integrated the Purpan School of Engineering as a component institution. It leads this initiative to strengthen cooperation among the academic institutions of Toulouse and its region, increase international attractiveness, and enhance its global standing.

Its scientific excellence is internationally recognized, and it is ranked among the world’s top 400 universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
